While his international retirement remains unconfirmed at this point, there is every chance that Peter O'Mahony played his final game for Ireland yesterday. If that is the case, it would be quite the way to go out.

Not only did the Cork man produce his best performance of the Six Nations during the victory over Scotland, but he also lifted the trophy after the game. Considering he was only appointed as captain a few weeks before the tournament, it was sure to be a special moment.

In saying that, he was forced into giving a playful telling off to one of his teammate soon after he got his hands on the trophy.

There is no doubt that Peter O'Mahony's teammates were thrilled that he had his moment to lift the Six Nations trophy after yesterday's game, although one of them took the opportunity to pull a prank on the 34-year old.

As O'Mahony got his hands on the trophy, Dan Sheehan pulled up his top just as the celebrations were getting going. In the clip below, the Munster man can be seen politely telling him to 'f**k off'.

All in good fun.

It was suggested before yesterday's game that Peter O'Mahony was set to retire from international rugby after this game, with his emotion during the pre-match anthem perhaps a telling clue as to what might come next for him.

In saying that, he said after the match that no decision has been made as of yet.

I don’t know. There are a few chats to have with the family and stuff over the next couple of weeks.

If it was my last one, it’s not a bad one to go out on.

Well said.

Peter O'Mahony has been a remarkable servant to Irish rugby for well over a decade, with supporters all over the country wishing him the very best if he does decide to step aside over the coming days and weeks. He certainly owes Ireland nothing.
