Reports have emerged today in the Independent that suggest the main contributing factor behind Ulster head coach Mark Anscombe leaving his post was due to 'player power'.
Just weeks after David Humphreys left his position as director of rugby to pursue a similar role with English side Gloucester, Ulster now find themselves without a head coach, and it is suggested that the reason for this is due to a number of key players becoming unhappy with the management, as detailed in the article:
Anscombe had hoped to secure a two-year extension but, after another season of near misses in domestic and European action, some senior players are believed to have become disenchanted with the direction the club was going.
This news comes as another headache for the IRFU, who have appointed Irish assistant coach Les Kiss as interim director of rugby. The longevity of Kiss' involvement with Ulster remains unclear, and now a new head coach must be appointed for the province who reached the Heineken Cup semi-final back in April.
