Rhys Ruddock will be unavailable for selection for this weekend's Guinness Six Nations game against Italy.

Ruddock suffered a mild hamstring injury during training last week, Leinster Rugby announced on Monday. The 28-year-old, who has 21 caps for Ireland, will enter a period of rehabilitation for the injury.

Dan Leavy, who started four of Ireland's games in last year's Grand Slam-winning Six Nations campaign, is making "good progress" on a calf injury. The back row has not played for Leinster since December.

In other Six Nations injury news, it was announced on Sunday that England winger Chris Ashton will miss his side's game against Wales this weekend due to a calf strain.

Ireland play Italy in their third game of the tournament on Sunday. The game kicks off at 3pm.
