Ex-Wallabies and Canterbury Crusaders head coach Robbie Deans has downplayed the possibility of replacing Matt O'Connor at Leinster.

The former All Black is currently with Japanese side Panasonic Wild Knights.

He told ESPN:

It's par for the course, approaches are constant, it's the same for the players. Just because it's been talked about it doesn't necessarily match what's happening in reality.

My circumstances are I have an existing contract with Panasonic in the Japanese Top League which I'm enjoying and committed to. As far as the future goes who knows but I'm not involved in any process with Leinster at the moment.

Deans was as short as 1/9 to be the next Leinster head coach. Following him in the betting were ex-Leinster forwards coach Jono Gibbes, now at Clermont, and Harlequins Director of Rugby Conor O'Shea.
