It's that time that only comes around every four years. The world is bombarded with "Team of the tournaments" from left, right, and centre - which is probably why TV3 and the balls.ie whatsapp group got in there early.

But the team of the tournament to end all teams has been released - with the moniker of "The Official Rugby World Cup Dream Team".

Naturally, the newly crowned World Rugby player of the year Dan Carter takes his place in the team, with fellow nominees Greig Laidlaw, Julian Savea, and David Pocock. Interestingly, neither Alun Wyn Jones nor Michael Hooper - who were also nominated managed to make the team. Instead, Schalk Burger, Eben Etzebeth, and Fijian Leone Nakarawa were selected.

Ireland's least favourite Argentinian - Ramiro Herrera is included with his compatriot Marcos Ayerza, and they are joined in the front row by losing final captain Stephen Moore.

Two players that found their way into the balls.ie whatsapp team join Nakarawa as the only tier two players involved - Japan's fullback Ayumu Goromaru, and Georgia's Mamuka Gorgodze.

There's no mention of star performers like Aaron Smith, DTH Van der Merwe, Ma'a Nonu, Hooper, Jones, Scott Sio, or Richie McCaw.
