Japan took on Wales in Cardiff today, with the Welsh nudging it 33-30 with a last-minute drop-goal by Sam Davies. Rob Howley later admitted that Japan deserved to win, but one supporter's disappointment was tempered with devotion.

We always knew that Shane Williams was a bit of a hero, but we never expected he would attract the kind of fawning, breathless obsession that is usually reserved for the Wire and Justin Bieber.

Williams ended his career in Japan: he made ten appearances for Mitsubishi Dynaboars in the Japanese Top League.
