Tadhg Furlong has been named as Ireland captain for Saturday's Autumn Nations Series clash Fiji at the the Aviva Stadium (kick-off 1 p.m.).

It is the first time in his career that he will be captaining his national team, but it does not come as a huge surprise given his 61 cap career.

So far, his stint as captain has not disappointed, as he gave a magnificent performance at today's press conference.

After remarking that he had never dreamed of captaining Ireland as a kid, he was asked what did he dream of, and his response was phenomenal:

Spuds, gravy, the mother's roast.

Furlong's love of spuds has been well documented, reaching meme territory, and the tighthead clearly knows what the audience wants to hear.

"It could be my only time. It's class," Furlong continued. "It's not something I ever thought would be on my radar. I said to Faz, it's no bother off the pitch but what do I do on it, go to the corner or what?"

"The last team I captained was the Irish 18s. And that's going back, boy!"

Furlong's Leinster teammate, Jack Conan, spoke yesterday about Saturday's win over the Springboks, and also looked ahead to the Fiji game.

“It was a different challenge. It’s a platform and a springboard going forward. We took a lot of lessons from it. There are massive areas we can get better at but it’s great with Fiji this week, Australia next week, and leading into the Six Nations that we have that good performance under our belt.

“We spoke this week about that being the status quo now, and we need to push on from that and get better. That is going to be the challenge because lads went so well on the weekend.

“It’s a different challenge in Fiji, but again massive physical bodies, so it won’t be easy in that regard either.”
