Former Cork hurler Darren Sweetnam gave Munster the lead near half-time of their fixture with the Maori All Blacks with a sensational breakaway try.

The 23-year-old Dunmanway man pounced on sloppy Maoris passing, booting the ball halfway down the pitch before roasting the Kiwis' left-winger James Love on the outside, fly-hacking on again and dropping on the ball as it crossed the line.

Co-commentator Liam Toland - who this office maintains may be the finest this country has to offer - did slip up amidst the excitement in the aftermath, dropping the obligatory 'showed his GAA skills' mention in his description of the score.

We're not sure Sweetnam ever showed such footballing ability while lining out at inter-county level for the Rebels' hurlers, though those close to him will point out he excels at every sport he tries his hand - or foot - in. Perhaps he'll line out for Cork City in the coming seasons.
