The World Rugby try of the year 2016 was an outstanding Irish score!

The World Rugby Awards were held in London on Sunday night, and Ireland's Jamie Heaslip found himself nominated for two awards.

While he waited to hear whether or not he was voted men's rugby player of the year, he was credited with a fantastic team score against Italy in the Six Nations which was voted by the fans as the try of the year.

The breathtaking score started just outside Ireland's 22 and involved no fewer than six Irish players as a flowing back-line move cut the Italian defense to shreds.

Heaslip collected the award, but he was pipped by Beauden Barrett of New Zealand for the best men's player award.

Still, it's great to see a fantastic Irish try recognised as the best of the year. We're sure Heaslip isn't trying to take all the credit for himself, but he deserves a huge pat on the back for being there to finish it off.
