England and Wasps flanker James Haskell was shown a straight red card for a horrific high tackle on former Wales centre, Jamie Roberts, in their clash with Harlequins at the Stoop tonight.

Cruising to a bonus point victory, Wasps were leading 28-12 with 20 minutes remaining. Yet, two tries in five minutes for Quins' set it up for a nervy finish for their counterparts who still needed a victory to keep their European Champions Cup ambitions afloat.

With five minutes remaining and deep in their own half, Quins' looked to move the ball out wide and counter attack, but in their process of moving the ball through the hands, Haskell lined up Roberts for a big hit, carelessly and recklessly smashing Roberts in the neck and head. It made for extremely grim viewing.

In fairness to Haskell, his immediate concern after the horrific tackle was to attend to Robert's who laid face down and motionless on the pitch.

Ultimately Haskell's red card cost his side a place in the quarter finals of the competition as they lost 33-28, but Wasps' loss is Ulster's gain, and a victory for the Irish province away to Wasps next weekend will guarantee progression to the quarter finals, and possibly facing tournament favourites Leinster.
