Leinster have got their Champions Cup campaign underway in ideal fashion, securing a 35-14 victory over Montpellier in France.

In truth, the Irish side never looked like losing this one right from the opening kick-off. This was despite the fact that they opted to start a number of their Ireland internationals on the bench.

They would score their opening try inside the first five minutes, with Josh van der Flier finding himself on the wing to finish off what was an excellent team move.

Ciaran Frawley would get their second try, with the forward touching down on his first start in European competition for the province.

Their third try was made possible by a sublime piece of play from Ross Byrne.

The fly-half produced a gorgeous kick in behind the Montpellier defence, perfectly picking out Dave Kearney who was helped by an ideal bounce from the ball.

They would enter the interval with a 20-6 lead.

The second half was a largely uneventful affair up until the final, but Leinster would eventually get their bonus point try. It came via Dan Leavy, who touched down only a few minutes after coming on.

While Montpellier would respond with a try of their own, here was still time for one more for Leinster, this time from fullback Jimmy O'Brien. The final scoreline was 35-14.

In the end, Leinster come away from with the win and a bonus point. Job done. They will now gear up for the visit of Northampton next week.
