The Cazoo UK Championship is currently in full swing, with the biggest names in snooker taking part in the event in York.

Some top players have already been eliminated from the competition, Neil Robertson included. Despite entering his match against world no. 30 Joe Perry as the clear favourite, the Aussie would end up on the wrong end of a 6-2 scoreline.

While it was not his best performance, he has received plenty of praise for one moment in the contest.

Neil Robertson praised for sportsmanship in UK Championship loss

Having lost the first frame of the match, Neil Robertson held a 23-13 early on in the second. Having stepped up to the table and potted the pink, he would immediately call a foul on himself as the cue ball had clipped the red. It did not look as though as it was initially spotted by the referee.

Robertson could be heard immediately saying 'foul, that's a foul', with the referee thanking him for his honesty.

Speaking on commentary on Eurosport, Dave Hendon praised the 40-year old for giving up what could have proven to be a key pot in the game.

Well, he owned up immediately, didn't he.

He must have caught the red. Yes, and straight away he indicated that it was a foul.

It will be frustrating for him because psychologically that could have been an important visit, had he gone on to win the frame there.

Joe Perry would step up produce a break of 82 to take the frame and control of the match.

He would go on to see out the remaining frame in a comfortable fashion. He will now face Stuart Bingham or Liam Highfield in the next round.
