Ronnie O'Sullivan says Kyren Wilson should simply concentrate on winning tournaments rather than trying to also be a crowd pleaser.

World number five Wilson complained earlier this week about being overlooked for the television match table at the English Open.

"Sometimes, it's not about what you win, it's about your personality, your charisma," six-time world champion O'Sullivan told Eurosport.

"Alex Higgins had it, Jimmy White had it, I think I have it. We pack crowds out. We might not be the Hendrys, the machines, the robots. If you want to sell tickets, Alex Higgins, Jimmy White, and possibly me were your only three players that could sell out probably any arena.

"The other guys have just got to play good snooker. For Kyren, forget about trying to be a crowd pleaser, just win tournaments. That's really all you've got. You're never going to be a crowd pleaser just because of the way you are as a person. He's not that charismatic."

To illustrate his point, O'Sullivan gave an example of a tournament which he played not long after Ken Doherty won the 1997 World Championship.

"They put me on the outside table," said O'Sullivan.

"I was like, 'What's going on here?' They were like, 'Ken is world champion'.

"I said, 'You're going to have a major problem because there's 2000 seats out there, and he's probably going to have four or five people watching his match. My side is a little cubicle and they're all going to be [craning their necks] watching mine. It's not going to look good on the TV'.

"They were like, 'He's world champ'. And I'm like, 'Alright, let's see'. It comes to 6:45 and they're like, 'Quick, we've got to swap the cameras around'.

"My whole side was packed. Ken's a good player and that, but just winning a tournament [isn't enough to make people want to watch you]."
