Ronnie O'Sullivan started his quest for a record-tying seventh World Championship yesterday, running out as a 10-5 winner over David Gilbert in their first round clash at The Crucible.

'The Rocket' entered the match as strong favourite to advance, doing so in relatively comfortable fashion. He is now set to face either Mark Allen or Scott Donaldson in the next round.

However, he could be in a bit of trouble for a 'lewd gesture' made during the win over Gilbert.

Ronnie O'Sullivan could be punished for 'lewd gesture'

After missing a shot on the black in the 13th frame of the match, O'Sullivan seemed to make a not so subtle gesture with his hand as he walked away from the table. It was a pretty harmless incident, although such gestures are frowned upon by the authorities.

You can watch footage of it below.

He could now be disciplined as a result.

WST head of media Ivan Hirschowitz told Eurosport:

We are aware of the incident and it has been referred to the WPBSA disciplinary committee.

Of course, Ronnie O'Sullivan is not shy of controversy. He has been punished by the authorities on a few occasions in the past, while his comments about the game have also rubbed up people the wrong way in recent times.

Despite this, he was in fine form after yesterday's outing. He described how he had changed his gym routine in order to prolong his time at the top of the sport.

I'm trying to change my gym work.

Instead of running so much, I might start doing some more weights just to strengthen my bones up because I look at a lot of the 50-year-olds here, they look a bit old and fragile. I was speaking to Barry McGuigan, and he said that as you get older, maybe the weights is the way forward to keep you strong.

I just think that as I get older, I need to look at how I physically train. Instead of running, and looking like you, I need to start looking a bit more like Arnie!

Here's hoping for another classic Ronnie O'Sullivan showing in the next round.
