The phrase 'genius is a word bandied about too often these days' is a phrase bandied about too often these days.
Acts of craft in most sports are often met by exclamations and proclamations of genius, and such is their frequency, most commentators, pundits and fans accept that genius labels are thrown about too often.
Not so in snooker. There is but one genius of the baize, and that is Ronnie O'Sullivan. Other players have their good shots praised, of course, but the sport has a mutual understanding that there is only one genius.
When he is at it, Ronnie gliding effortlessly around the table is as good a sight as there is in sport.
And boy, was he at it today. O'Sullivan is playing in the European Masters in Bucharest, and earlier this week said that his level of play was not where he wants it to be.
Things being as they are, this was followed by a Ronnie O'Sullivan whitewash of Neil Robertson. Yep, Ronnie has sauntered into a final meeting with Judd Trump following a 6-0 demolition of the Australian, who he restricted to a total of 80 points in six frames.
O'Sullivan's highest break was 118.
