While there has been no shortage of drama in the early stages of the 2023 World Snooker Championship, there have been few bigger stories than the emergence of Si Jiahui.

Making his debut at the tournament, the 20-year old has already produced a couple of big scalps. He would defeat Shaun Murphy in the first round, with the Englishman going on to tip him to become China's first world champion.

Jiahui would then continue his fine start to the event yesterday, facing Robert Milkins in the second round. He would lead the match on a scoreline of 6-2 at the end of the first session, setting himself up perfectly for their next session later this evening.

Si Jiahui nearly makes incredible pot at the Crucible

Si Jiahui was in excellent form yesterday, making a number of excellent shots. He also nearly produced a remarkable fluke one that Eurosport commentator Dave Hendon believed would have been 'one of the most incredible pots in Crucible history'.

In the fourth frame of the match, Jiahui lined up what looked like a fairly straightforward red into the corner pocket. However, after putting too much power into the shot, the red would bounce out of the pocket and roll along the side rail before almost dropping into the yellow pocket at the far end of the table.

You can watch the incident below.

Hendon summed up the moment perfectly on commentary:

Hang on, oh wow. That was nearly unbelievable, it nearly went the whole length of the table into the yellow pocket.

That would have been one of the most incredible pots in Crucible history had it gone in.

Other than a quarter-final appearance at the European Masters earlier this year, this will be the first occasion that many snooker fans will have seen Si Jiahui in action.

Currently ranked 80th in the world, you get the feeling it won't be long before he is competing consistently among the sport's elite.
