Some American college students are hosting 'coronavirus parties', with a prize being given to the first attendee that manages to contract the virus, it is being reported.

The New York Post previously reported that a number of students in Tuscaloosa, Alabama had been attending parties despite having been diagnosed with covid-19.

It has now emerged that parties are being held in the region where those in attendance put money in a pot and then go on to try and catch coronavirus. The first one of them that manages to do so will win the kitty of cash.

Tuscaloosa City Council member Sonya McKinstry spoke about the parties yesterday:

They put money in a pot and they try to get COVID. Whoever gets COVID first gets the pot.

It makes no sense.

Tuscaloosa City Fire Chief Randy Smith said that while they believed the parties to only be rumours at first, it now looks as though they are actually a thing.

We did some additional research …. not only did the doctor’s offices help confirm it but the state confirmed they also had the same information.

Alabama has an official tally of 37,536 coronvirus cases, with 926 resulting in death.
