Instagram posers have a habit of being completely insufferable but some are taking it to a whole new level by taking highly questionable photos during their visits to the site of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster.

Tourism to the area has reportedly increased by 30-40% off the back of the success of HBO's critically-acclaimed show, Chernobyl, which has brought a resurgence of interest in the nuclear disaster. While many who have visited the area have maintained a level of decorum, some have posted disrespectful, even raunchy, selfies, leading to a plea from the show's creator, Craig Mazin to remember that this is the scene of a devestating event.

Mazin writes:

It's wonderful that #ChernobylHBO has inspired a wave of tourism to the Zone of Exclusion. But yes, I've seen the photos going around.

If you visit, please remember that a terrible tragedy occurred there. Comport yourselves with respect for all who suffered and sacrificed.

Certain influencers have shared photos on social of themselves posing in hazmat suits, with some even posting pics of themselves in lingerie and tagging their location as Pripyat.

The Chernobyl site opened to tourists in 2011 but there are still some heavily contaminated areas that are off limits. The town of Pripyat was evacuated on April 27th 1986 and remains virtually uninhabited to this day.
