Matt Selman, executive producer of The Simpsons, confirmed on Sunday that a recent episode of the show did make a reference to Channel 4 show Derry Girls.

Episode 14 of the new season, You Won't Believe What This Episode Is About – Act Three Will Shock You!, sees Homer visit Dairy Girls Ice Cream to buy a reward for Santa's Little Helper after he saves him from having to talk to Lenny about his love of dogs.

Homer is subsequently confronted by an angry mob outside the shop, and is accused of leaving Santa's Little Helper in the car with the windows rolled up.

Asked on Twitter if the name was "a reference to Dairy Queen, or Derry Girls, or both?", Selman replied Derry Girls.

Lisa McGee, writer of Dery Girls, thanked Selman for making the reference to her show.

There is also a real life business called Dairy Girls in Derry.

The trailer for the third, and final, season of Derry Girls was released last week with Channel 4 saying, "While there's hope in the air that The Troubles may finally be over, their troubles are only just getting started as they get even closer to 'adulthood'". It was added that the new season is "coming soon". It is three years since the second season of the show aired.
