UPDATE:

Since this piece was originally published Eamon Dunphy Calls Out Rod Liddle has gone on to beat Lad 'Fails' Driving Test, and has shocked Castletown Donkey Derby in the vote to find Ireland's Greatest YouTube Video. It is currently battling it out in the grand final against What's Snots. You can vote in final here.

------------------

Not since the days of the Ice Bucket Challenge has a craze encapsulated a nation like the vote for Ireland's Greatest YouTube video. All week, we've been hosting a bracket for the ages as we attempt to do the impossible, and crown, once and for all, the best Irish video in YouTube history.

The competition has proved fierce, some big names went home early, fights and threats of violence have been manifold in offices and bars nationwide, and Gardaí are investigating at least one arson attack.

While Man Slips and Ice and What's Snots are locked in a battle for the ages on the other other side of the bracket, there is an titanic dual happening in another quarter-final, one which shouldn't even be a contest.

Unfortunately, for those of us used to the sporting bubble, it turns out there are some out there who don't understand the wonder and genius of Eamon Dunphy's greatest moment.

Eamon Dunphy's rant on the back of Roy Keane's Old Trafford departure from Old Trafford in 2005 has long been a favourite for those of us raised on the Giles/Dunphy/O'Herlihy trio, but it seems some out there aren't as aware of Eamo's ways as the rest of us.

That's right, as we approach the deadline for voting, Dunphy is neck and neck with an admittedly funny (probably set up?) video where a man pretends he failed his driving test to anger his seemingly unstable father.

How can these two compare? The greatest moment in Irish television history vs. Angry Dad?

The thing about the Dunphy video is that it's been described as "Dunphy/Rod Liddle" all week. While the Rod Liddle moment is probably one of the most rightly iconic moments in television and YouTube history, it actually undermines the video to reduce it to one soundbite.

As discussed on our emergency Rewind podcast to discuss the quarter-finals on Thursday, the nine minute video has so many more wonderful moments than just the unbelievable 'Rod Liddle ran away and left his wife for a young one' argument between Dunphy and Bill.

Dunphy's inexplicable hatred for Niall Quinn:

I'm not going to address Niall Quinn's agenda. I think Niall Quinn is a creep

We've got an idiot like Niall Quinn writing a column..

You want to see Quinn? Go down to the Olympia, he's in "I, Keano". That's what he is!

He's quite unequivocal about Keane's influence at Manchester United:

He's been the greatest player in the history of the club

The incredible shade he throws at his co-panelists:

There's never been a greater Irish player. And these two are the two next best. But in terms of courage, and conviction, and achievement, he's way ahead of these two guys.

The back and forth between Dunphy and Brady about Roy Keane's move from Nottingham Forest:

Because there's a bidding way between Blackburn and Manchester United. Now you get your facts right.

Did Roy Keane ever do anything wrong?

He's a gentleman. He's a class act. He's a rebel. And he stands up to bullies.

He's right about EVERYTHING

Saipan was right!

Has a random go at Arsenal players:

Vieira fannied and flipped and flopped. Henry's at it now, won't sign a new contract at Arsenal and I've got Liam Brady who works for Arsenal, telling me that Roy Keane's wrong, because Roy Keane was doing a little bit of bidding on the telly for a new contract?

But Alex Ferguson didn't think his behaviour was...

Ferguson's lost the plot John!

And there's Rod Liddle, and there's taking off the microphone and sheepishly sneaking it back on, and so, so much more. Do your duty to this country and get this through to the semi-finals.

The vote for the quarter-finals is now closed. If you'd like to vote for Eamon Dunphy Calls Out Rod Liddle in the semi-finals you can do so below.
