Despite not working together on RTÉ for a number of years now, the Eamon Dunphy and John Giles punditry partnership is still going strong.

Giles is a regular guest on his old friend's The Stand With Eamon Dunphy podcast, where the pair sink their teeth into the latest goings-on in the world of football.

While they often came to blows on RTÉ, the conversations on the pod are a lot more low-key but that doesn't mean that the pair have lost the ability to entertain.

A recent episode has been picked up on by the Young Hot Guys podcast, fronted by comedians Killian Sunderman, Shane Daniel Byrne and Tony Cantwell, and a clip shared on Twitter shows Sunderman presenting some of his findings on the iconic punditry duo.

Eamon Dunphy and John Giles have show grá for one particular word

In it, he points out the amount of times Dunphy and Giles say the word "players," and when he presses play on his phone, you can see what he means.

"John, one of our great players," Dunphy is heard to say. "Of the players who played on Friday night, he's the only player to play that way, despite the players he had."

"You have to look at the players you have at your disposal," replies Giles. "This is the way we're going to play."

"Is it your view that what dictates the way you play are the players you've got?," Dunphy asks.

"Exactly," says Giles. "And we play the way that we have to play which was very, very difficult but we have to play it playing the way we play it."

Eamon Dunphy and John Giles pairing lives on

You get the idea, and it goes on like this for some time, as the Young Hot Guys trio crack up at pair's odd choice of words.

While Dunphy and Giles are regularly in agreement on the pod, it wasn't always the case when they were key members of a star RTÉ panel.

An example here shows that it didn't take much to get them fired up back in the day and perhaps the absence of TV cameras has led to them mellowing out a bit.
