Supermacs is an Irish institution.

Be it going to a match, after a night out, or just picking up a takeaway from your local branch, it is a part of life in this country.

Of course, it doesn't have much of a reputation outside of Ireland. Supermac's made attempts to expand into the UK and Europe in the past, although that has yet to materialise.

As a result, it has yet to gain much popularity in other countries. If this food review is anything to go by, the chances of it doing so look rather slim.

English food reviewer not impressed by Supermac's

Food Review Club is an increasingly popular online channel that goes around judging various restaurants and takeaway in the UK, although they also made their way to Dublin last month.

They reviewed a number of spots, including the Black Forge and San Sab. However, it is their trip to Supermac's that stands out.

After being recommended by viewers and labelled as 'the Irish McDonald's', host Matt had high hopes for the food. After asking about the most popular items, he decided to go with taco fries, a chicken breast sandwich, and a 5oz burger.

It's safe to say he wasn't impressed.

He initially enjoyed the taco fries somewhat, labelling them as an 'oily delicious mess'.

However, there's where the compliments ended. The chicken breast sandwich was not really for him, as he thought the chicken was too high and lack flavour.

As for the the bacon and cheese 5oz burger, having described it 'a little bit minging' before even taking a bite, he would go on to say that it was 'one of the worst burgers he has ever had'.

This is how he summed up the overall experience, giving it an overall score of 1/10:

That was proper s**t. Please don't mention Supermac's in the same breath as McDonald's...

If I came here a bit down in the dumps and wanted a burger, and I got that, I'd probably be locked up. Fuming!

The chicken was dry and overcooked, nonsense. The chips were alright, they tasted trashy, but kind of yummy trashy. The rest was just trashy.

Not great.

Still, it won't stop the rest of us going in for a cheeky snackbox in the near future.
