Graham Norton co-hosted last night's Eurovision Song Contest, away from his usual commentating duties.

Despite the change in roles he still paid a heartfelt tribute to his predecessor, Limerick man Terry Wogan, who was the voice of the Eurovision on the BBC for decades.

I would urge you to raise whatever’s in front of you, a glass, a cup, a mug, and toast the memory of the late great Sir Terry Wogan. The man who was and always will be the voice of Eurovision, Sir Terry.

The kind words were said before the ninth song of the night, but the timing of them was not without reason.

Wogan, who passed away in 2016, had warned Norton not to start drinking too early into the night as to not get too tipsy, hence why Norton chose that point to raise a glass to the legend.

Sweden's Loreen won for a second time, and she spoke of her 2012 win after last night's victory.

“Everything feels surreal. I am seriously overwhelmed. This is so beautiful. One feeling I have in my body that’s taken over is just gratitude.”

“In 2012 everything was new for me. This time it’s like coming back to a family. We know each other by now. This experience was more motherly and effortless.

“I feel proud. The song has certain values. It’s about hope, it’s about self-love, it’s about strength. It resonates with people.

“I think the key to any success is being authentic. And to be authentic you have to know yourself.”
