There's Big Vaccine Energy going around Ireland this morning as it's been confirmed that select pharmacies across the country will be providing the single-jab Janssen vaccine for 18-34 year-olds from next Monday.

This is massive news as fears of a fourth covid wave have delayed the reopening of indoor dining and hospitality. Young people were forced to the back of the queue in the vaccine process but a change in thinking from NIAC means that from the start of next week, select pharmacies up and down the country will be providing the Janssen vaccine to those aged 18 to 34.

They've also said that bookings for the mRNA vaccine (ie Pfizer) will open next Friday for 30-34 years-olds.

The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly also told RTÉ today that there would be an 'opt-in' method online for 18-34 year-old where people can choose the vaccine they want.

"From Monday 12 July, there will be an online option as well, so when you go to the online portal you now be able to say yes I'm 18-34, I appreciate I will be getting a mRna vaccine in the future, but I actually what I want to do is opt, mainly for AstraZeneca vaccine through the vaccine centre, there will be some Janssen as well, but mainly AstraZeneca through the vaccine centre."

"So they can be vaccinated earlier. 18 to 34 can now be vaccinated one to two months earlier which is a huge benefit for them and society in the face of this Delta surge."
