The Rewind Recommends: 5 Movies You Can Watch On TV Tonight

We're back with another dose of recommendations after trawling through the TV listings so you don't have to, finding five quality movies on TV tonight.

There's a bit of something for everyone, with three movies from 2017, one from 2010, and a 90s classic. There's even one for the kids.

Patriots Day: RTÉ 2, 9.30pm

Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Kevin Bacon, John Goodman

Plot: Set after the Boston Marathon bombing that took place in 2013, police Sgt. Tommy Saunders , FBI Special Agent Richard DesLauriers and Commissioner Ed Davis join courageous survivors, first responders and other investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the suspects and bring them to justice.

Cars 3: RTÉ One, 6.35pm

Cast: Owen Wilson, Cristela Alonzo, Chris Cooper

Plot: The third instalment in the beloved Pixar movie series. Lighting McQueen, a legendary racer, is overcome by new generation racers. He sets out to prove that he is the best racer in the world with the help of Cruz Ramirez.

War for the Planet of the Apes: Channel 4, 9pm

Cast: Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn

Plot: The final movie in the rebooted 'Planet of the Apes' trilogy. When a rogue army of humans kills Caesar's wife and son, he sets out to exact revenge. But his quest for retribution reveals his darker instincts even as he makes a startling discovery. This all sounds ridiculous, but it's actually a very good watch.

Independence Day: E4, 6.10pm

Cast: Will Smith, Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum

Plot: A classic. An alien race destroys major cities of the world with their advanced weaponry. However, a geek, a pilot, the US President and a group of ragtag survivors unite to save mankind from annihilation.

RED: E4, 9pm

Cast: Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman

Plot: Frank Moses, a former black-ops agent, learns that his life is under threat from an assassin. In a bid to protect himself, he reunites with his old team to nab the man who has vowed to kill him.
