Watch: BBC Presenters Lost For Words After Guest's Brilliant Boris Johnson Dig
By Gary Connaughton Updated

The Watergate Scandal is perhaps the most infamous political saga of all-time, with the story of Richard Nixon indiscretions being told numerous times down through the years.

We will be given another retelling of the events this month, with the first episode of Gaslit being released on April 24th. The show will focus on Martha Mitchell (played by Julia Roberts), the wife of Nixon's Attorney General who first made public the allegations. It should be an interesting watch.

Dan Stevens throws brilliant Boris Johnson dig

Dan Stevens, who also stars on the Starz release, appeared on BBC's The One Show to speak about its pending release. Considering it is a tale based around deep political corruption, he used it as an opportunity to have a dig at Boris Johnson.

Of course, the British Prime Minister is currently embroiled in yet another scandal, with the news this week that he is to be fined by police for breaking his own lockdown rules by attending a birthday party at 10 Downing Street.

When asked by presenters Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas to give the viewers a lowdown on Gaslit, he really couldn't help himself. This what he said when asked to discuss Nixon's actions that inspired the show:

What you've got is a criminal for a leader who is wrapped in a messy war, embroiled in a stupid scandal, surrounded by ambitious idiots, and really should resign.

Oh no wait, that's the intro to Boris Johnson. I've just said the intro to Boris Johnson, I'm sorry.

Jenas' reaction is brilliant.

Boris Johnson has apologised for breaking the rules on this occasion, having previously claimed that all the social distancing guidelines had been followed during events at Downing Street:

Let me say immediately that I've paid the fine and I once again offer a full apology.

I have to say, in all frankness, at that time it did not occur to me that this might have been a breach of the rules.

But of course the police have found otherwise and I fully respect the outcome of their investigation.

It's highly unlikely that this issue will be going away anytime soon.
