The great Paul McCartney celebrates his 80th birthday this Saturday, and fans of the former Beatle were treated to celebratory performance on the last leg of his US tour on Thursday night.

McCartney played to a packed-out MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Thursday and, as a surprise to fans, invited the legendary Bruce Springsteen on stage to perform two songs with him.

'The Boss' arrived on stage to perform his 1984 hit 'Glory Days', before they performed a song from McCartney's Beatles days, 'I Wanna Be Your Man'.

Brilliant fan footage from inside the stadium captured the performance.

He was not the only star on show on Thursday night. McCartney turns 80 on Saturday and, to mark the occasion with an early celebration, Jon Bon Jovi joined the band on stage to sing 'Happy Birthday' to the ex-Beatle, along with the stadium full of fans.

McCartney closed out the gig with the iconic medley of songs which closes off the 1969 Beatles album Abbey Road, and Springsteen returned to the stage to trade guitar solos with McCartney and his band for the concluding performance.

McCartney has played a near-two-month long tour of the US as part of his 'Got Back' tour, his first since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each night of the tour brought a heartwarming moment, when video footage of a young John Lennon at the Beatles' final live performance appeared on screen and McCartney dueted with Lennon on their song 'I've Got A Feeling'.

Paul McCartney will follow up his US tour by headlining this year's Glastonbury Festival next week. He will perform on the Saturday night of the festival at Worthy Farm, the first to be held since 2019.
