It's been a big month for fans of New Girl, with all seven seasons now available to stream on Netflix. It is the perfect show for providing some comic relief in the current climate and makes for the ideal rewatch.

As the seasons develop, each character comes into their own and they all provide us with many great moments. However, which one of them is your favourite? For us, there are three standouts but we want to leave this decision up to you. Take a look at the arguments below, have a think about it and vote at the bottom of the article for who you think is the best.

The case for Jess

The main character in the show, she is the glue that holds everything together. She may not be the most slapstick of the characters on the show but maybe she's the most real and when we're thinking about makes a good character then, for some, that can be the most important aspect. Other reasons she's the best include:

  • She believes horses are from outer space
  • She has a heart of gold
  • Dog photos make her cry
  • She's a great adjudicator for True American

The case for Schmidt

As the late great Sir Billy Joel once said "Schmidt is a quote a second. Blink and you'll have missed ten jokes." Is he the perfect person? No, but Schmidt's shtick is hilarious and his carry-on keeps you entertained through the series. The jams he gets himself into, the quotes he comes out with, there is so much to love about him. Other reasons he's the best include:

  • He's a certified vaginius
  • He'd do anything for love
  • His suits really are extraordinary
  • He's genuinely successful

The case for Nick

He's the everyday man whose antics will both entertain and thoroughly annoy you. Nick is the perfect combination of angry funny. In contrast to Schmidt, he has no douchebag notions and is completely comfortable in his own skin. Other reasons he's the best include:

  • He's into writing zombie novels yet still not fully sure he can read
  • He also believes horses are from outer space
  • He's a handyman
  • His friendship/water yoga with Tran is A1 comedy gold

The case for Winston

No matter what is going on in an episode you can be guaranteed that Winston is involved in some frankly ridiculous storyline. While he is a key part of the group, he is a more independent character than the others and this provides us with so many random, off the wall moments. Other reasons he's the best include:

  • He's great a puzzles
  • He's Prank Sinatra
  • He's a straight talker
  • He knows how to use Microsoft Word
  • He stole a cat

The case for Cece

Cece may not be the funniest character on the show but that doesn't rule her out of being the best. At the beginning you would be forgiven for thinking she was going to be a support character but as the series progressed she became an integral part of the show and her relationships with Jess, Schmidt and the rest of the gang provide some semblance of sanity in a crazy sitcom world.

  • Her mess arounds with Winston
  • The way she says "pan"
  • She's maybe the only normal person in the whole show
  • The fact she is only person who wouldn't drive you mad if you lived with them in real life

The case for Coach

Although not a regular, Coach is like the cool cousin/uncle that everyone loves to have around. Perhaps absence even makes the heart grow fonder. Other reasons he's the best include:

  • He has a princess waist
  • He takes dumps standing up
  • He makes moist cakes
  • He has some great insults
