So often, arguments have broken out over the in-flight entertainment for a long car journey.
Sure, you could take the cop out option and turn on the radio. Better yet, you could stick on a podcast to allow the hours to fly. The odd time, however, you need some conviction in your ability to curate a playlist.
If your mates don't want to spend their time driving through anonymous countryside to an eclectic soundtrack of Underworld and JJ72 b-sides, are they really your friends?
Thankfully, thanks to the Music Compatibility Test, you can find out just how similar your tastes are to your friends. All you have to do is log into your Spotify account and find out which one of your friends won't mind your playlist of The Mock Turtles' greatest hits.
The app gives you a score out of 100 which determines how close your listening habits mirror your friends. There's also an in-depth look at different genres which showcase your common ground. On the topic of genre, Spotify apparently has a genre of music known as 'escape room'. Does it solely consist of music that makes you feel like you're trapped, all the while simultaneously sniping at people in the room with you? Who knows!
The app also allows you to see which artists you most have in common with the other person, should you have a high enough compatibility score. That means you can completely tailor your playlists to suit the group. If you want to sneakily throw in Mickey Joe Harte, we won't say anything, in fact, we'd promote it.
The app only takes into account the last six months of your Spotify listening patterns, so thankfully you won't have to answer awkward questions regarding your penchant for Glee cover songs during your adolescence.
Have a whack and try it for yourself here.
