Tommy Tiernan has defended himself for asking Amy Huberman about her sex life on his chat show earlier in the year. The Irish comedian received a wave of backlash online after the episode aired in March, with RTÉ receiving 15 complaints via email and calls.
In a recent interview with RTÉ Guide, the comedian justified the question, stating that it is 'an integral part of all of our lives.
RTÉ Received 15 Complaints Following Tommy Tiernan's 'Sex Life' Question
During an episode of The Tommy Tiernan Show, the host asked Amy Huberman, who is married to Irish Rugby Legend Brian O'Driscoll, about her sex life:
Without incriminating the people that we live with, I wonder could we talk about sex?
After a long and awkward pause, Tiernan followed up by saying, "If it's an unfair question Amy, we can leave it."
The Irish Comedian received some backlash online after the episode aired in March, with viewers unhappy over the questioning.

Tommy Tiernan Issues Defence Over 'Sex Life' Question
Asked about the backlash he received, Tiernan said that he feels that it was completely unjustified and defended the line of questioning.

I’ve asked countless people about a subject that is an integral part of all of our lives, and just because a bunch of idiots take exception to me asking a woman about sex… I mean really?
If you steer your ship by their star, you’ll very quickly end up shipwrecked.
Whilst the interview no-doubt takes an awkward turn, Tiernan does not agree with the negative backlash he has received, and rather opened up himself on his sex-life with his wife during the episode.
“I’m much more interested now in intimacy and shared, physical space with my wife and sex can be a part of that," he explained.
"It’s not something you often hear Irish men in their 50s say, but it’s really important for me to be able to spend that time with my wife being physical intimate. But that’s not necessarily about sex.”
