Chris Sutton Didn't Hold Back In His Reaction To Darron Gibson's Outburst About Teammates

It's been a difficult week for people accidentally unloading on the limitations of their colleagues in public. Anthony Scaramuci has lasted a fundamentally hilarious ten days as the White House's Communications Director, while Darron Gibson is subject to disciplinary action by Sunderland for his drunken outburst against a few of his Sunderland teammates.

Gibson was secretly filmed by a supporter over the weekend, and when asked about whether he agreed with the assertion that some of the players didn't care enough, he named three in particular:

There is too many people at the club who don't give a fuck [Lamine Kone] yes next one, [Jermain Lens] next one, [Wahbi Khazri] next one...

...I may be off my face in here but I still want to play for Sunderland and the rest of them fucking don't though.

Sunderland released a statement yesterday, in which they got his name wrong, in trademark Sunderland style:

Darren (sic) Gibson has not conducted himself in a manner befitting Sunderland Football Club. As a consequence, we will initiate our internal disciplinary process to deal with the matter. Darron has apologised this morning.

Chris Sutton gave his reaction to the story on 5Live last night, in which he dismissed Gibson's actions as "stupid", while admitting that the whole of Sunderland is a "cesspit".

You can't do it. He's a renegade in a dressing room full of pirates. Sunderland is a cesspit at the moment, and they just don't need it. Poor Simon Grayson, he's got a hard enough job at it is.

This has been coming, and he has a job to get this Sunderland team anywhere near the play-offs and things like this don't help. You can understand the frustration among the supporters but it's just stupidity. In this day and age, everybody knows everybody has a camera phone.

Years ago players might have got away with it - going for a drink after you got thrashed. But you cannot do it, absolutely brainless behaviour. They'll throw the book at him.

Privately, they'll probably want to sell him and they'll be touting him around, but it's not that easy. I don't think it's a sackable offence.
