Back-to-back All-Ireland champions Meath ladies have been left without a manager following Davy Nelson's unexpected departure.

Meath are only three weeks out from their first round-robin opener against Waterford and are now without any form of management. Nelson and his management team only took over the team this season.

Nelson and his management team took over from three-time All-Ireland winning manager Eamonn Murry last October as Murray stepped away from coaching altogether.

In a statement released by Meath ladies, they said that it is ''with regret Meath LGFA announce that the County Senior Management will not be taking the team forward to the TG4 All Ireland Series Group B games against Waterford and Donegal.''

The three-in-a-row hopefuls are set to play their opening game in the All-Ireland series against Waterford on Sunday 25th, June.

Nelson, who was a well-decorated player and coach prior to taking the Meath LGFA job, winning 10 county titles as a player and managing the Meath men's U21 team, was chosen as the man to take over from back-to-back All-Ireland senior winning manager Eamonn Murray.

Meath's performances under Nelson were nothing shy of underwhelming and the once-dominant side were playing with little conviction and composure.

The defending All-Ireland champions had a poor league campaign this year under Nelson's management. They only managed one win in their quest to retain their NFL Div 1 title.

Instead of aiming for a final, they were facing the idea of relegation but they managed a fortunate 1-7 to 0-5 win against Donegal to keep themselves afloat in Division 1.

Meath's poor League run and now being only three weeks out from the championship without a manager could be the perfect recipe to coax Eamonn Murray out of retirement and back into the Meath setup. Fergal Lynch of the Meath Chronicle wrote last night that Murray could be convinced to come out of retirement.
