If you are a fan of FIFA Ultimate Team, one of the most popular game modes of all time, or even if you've always wanted to see what all the fuss was about, then you should be very excited for FIFA 16.
Recently we had the opportunity to get our hands on an almost complete build of FIFA 16, and we got to try out the new game mode which is set to be a huge hit:
What is FUT Draft?
FUT Draft is a new fantasy draft style game mode in FIFA 16 Ultimate Team, where a player must pay 7,500 coins (the price of a single gold pack), or 150 FIFA Points, or a single draft token which can be earned from opening packs in FUT, to enter a competition where the format is win or you're out for a maximum of four games. The idea is to assemble your team and win all four games for the biggest reward, but you are guaranteed to at least get your 7,500 investment back.
How do I assemble my team?
This is the fun part. You may have seen a video earlier where Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher pick their FUT Draft team, and if so then you should have a good understanding, but if not...
-You are presented with a choice of formations, you can't decide which formations are available, and once you have picked your formation you must stick with it for the duration of the competition.
-You will then be asked to pick a captain, typically the biggest players in the game, for example we saw someone draw Pele as their captain during our play test, it should look something like this:
-Once you've picked your captain you must pick the rest of the squad. You select each position and are given five random players of similar ratings, they could be all crap or they could all be stars, there's no way to know. You can even pick the bench players one by one. It really is a lot of fun drafting the team.
-After your squad is ready you can enter the tournament where you will play against other FUT Draft squads.
We spoke to Creative Director for FIFA Ultimate Team, Adam Shaikh, and asked him to explain the new mode in a bit more detail.
Why should I try this new game mode?
Quite simply, we think that every FIFA player needs to try this new game mode, because FUT Draft is all the best parts of Ultimate Team without the graft of trying to make enough coins to buy the best players in the game. If you love Ultimate Team but never get to use the likes of Messi and Ronaldo, then this is your time.
If you've ever played FIFA with a mate online against another player then this mode is absolutely tailor made to bring you hours and hours of fun.
It's a great idea from EA Sports, we've made it clear before that we wanted some sort of fantasy draft element in FIFA, and to incorporate it into Ultimate Team was a clever way to make it happen.
