For most of us, Christmas is the one time of year when there's time. Time to rest. Time to stop. Time to do nothing. And lets face it, for most of us, that means time to watch sport.

While you love spending time with your family, it's not long before you remember why you moved out in the first place and you search the refuge of the television.

Balls has you covered this Christmas Day. Here's a definitive guide to watching sport on television today from the moment you rise until you collapse in the wee, wee hours of Stephen's Day.

6am - 7am

You're awake putting together the presents that Santy Claus has brought to your children, you need a coffee. Or, you could ignore the presents and flick on the Gold Coast Titans against the Melbourne Storm in NRL rugby on Eir Sport 2.

8am- 9am

Now you've got a bit of a variety as to what you wanna watch while having your traditional hungover breakfast after Christmas Eve pints. BT Sport ESPN have games five and six of the Cubs vs Indians in the World Series starting from 8.

If you're a Manchester United fan, Eir Sport are showing the FA Cup Final from last year at 8.30. Or, you can see some highlights from the NFL games the night before. Sky Sports 1 is wall-to-wall football all Christmas Day, starting with the Miami Dolphins at the Buffalo Bills at 8.

10am-11am

The NFL highlights continue on Sky with the Cincinnati Bengals visit to the Houston Texans on SS1. Closer to home, Eir focus on Dundalk's European Adventure at 11, while BT Sport 1 have a lookback at Spain vs England at Euro 96 at 10.

If darts tickles your fancy, there's highlights from all of the action at the Alexandra Palace so far on Sky Sports 3.

12pm - 1pm

Sky Sports 4 are showing the entirety of the Ryder Cup from earlier this year, but the real highlight is on Eir Sport 2. We're sure you'll all be glued to the Swedish Hockey League fixture of Frolunda vs HV71

2pm-3pm

Dundalk's historic game against BATE Borisov is on Eir, the Indianapolis Colts and the Oakland Raiders take centre stage on Sky Sports 1. Other than that, there isn't too much about. Might be time to go to Mass.

4pm-5pm

BT kick off a solid afternoon with the first of five live NBA games at 5, with the Boston Celtics facing the New York Knicks.

Eir Sport 2 again comes up trumps by showing NHL with the Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers followed by the Edmonton Oilers and the Arizona Coyotes. Weirdly, there's a full round of games on Christmas Eve and yet Eir are showing games from last Thursday.

If you're really stuck, Sky Sports 2 have their repeat of Soccer AM at the same time, which is a bit of an oxymoron. but you should probably go have dinner.

6pm-7pm

Now that you're nicely stuffed and rolling into your chair, Joe Molloy has a documentary with Kieran Donaghy on Eir at 7, the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers meet on BT in a repeat of last year's NBA finals.

The best of Soccer Saturday will always raise a laugh, that's on Sky Sports 2 at 6.30. Just anything to avoid watching Frozen.

8pm - 9pm

Here's where it all kicks off. Fancy seeing the third greatest moment of Irish sport in 2016?  Eir Sport 1 at 8pm. Soldier Field, Chicago. Ireland's historic win over New Zealand in full.

At halftime, quickly flick over to Sky Sports 1 for the second quarter of the Baltimore Ravens at the Pittsburgh Steelers, one of two live Christmas NFL games. The loser of this game will probably miss out on the playoffs. So grab the rest of the turkey and crack a Bud open once the rugby's done.

Or, if you're English, they're doing a special Monday Night Football on the 1966 World Cup Final on Sky Sports 2. Because of course they are.

10pm - 11pm

You've finally put away the last of the mince pies and have started on the sherry. If you're in Connacht, throw on Eir Sport 1 as they follow the Soldier Field performance with the Pro12 Final.

UFC 201 (not one which featured McGregor) is on BT Sport 2. With the Chicago Bulls and the San Antonio Spurs in action on the main channel in game 3 of 5.

12am-1am

If you've somehow avoided passing out, congratulations! Reward yourself with the 30 in 30 documentary about the Escobars in Colombia  (no, not the Narcos ones) on BT Sport 2 at 1am.

If you need something to help you sleep, BT 3 and Sky Sports 2 both have LIVE test cricket. Zzzzz.

1:20-4am

You've survived the rest of Christmas Day. Why not finish off by checking out the second of the live NFL games on Sky Sports 1 - the Denver Broncos against the Kansas City Chiefs. Forget about losing that game of Monopoly, there's always next year!
