The organisers of the Affidea Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin Half Marathon are delighted to reveal their first-ever Rock 'n' Run Idol, Dubliner Suzanne Alcock-Thompson.
Suzanne was one of six incredible people nominated for the Rock 'n' Run Idol prize ahead of August's Affidea Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin Half Marathon. Each nominee had an incredible life story and had found that running had changed their life. After a huge online voting turnout of over 15,000 votes, Suzanne was announced as the winner today.
Suzanne has been a truly inspirational figure for the running community in north county Dublin. Suzanne started from scratch as a runner in 2012, with the modest ambition of finishing a 5k. She was also looking to build a sense of community as she developed her fitness, so she started a running group called Sloggers to Joggers. A group that started with 5 members now boasts 250 active runners across Ireland.
Suzanne has participated in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series in Dublin and Liverpool in recent years. After winning the public vote, she has won an amazing trip for two to Las Vegas to participate in the the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon and Half Marathon this November. The race in Las Vegas is the biggest night-time running event in the world, and most excitingly, Suzanne will bring her mother along with her to Vegas for what should be the trip of a lifetime.
Congratulations to Suzanne and to everyone shortlisted for the prize. If you're looking for a road race that can change your life, the Affidea Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin Half Marathon series will take place from 5-7 August. You can register here.
