Arsenal legend Don Howe has passed away at the age of 80 following a long battle with illness. Howe joined Arsenal from West Brom in 1964, playing 74 times for the Gunners before breaking his leg in 1966. It was an injury he never recovered from.

Howe went on to join the Arsenal backroom staff, before serving as manager at West Brom, Galatasaray, Arsenal and QPR. His last stint as a manager was in a caretaker role at Coventry City, back in 1991.

Howe is most recognisable to Irish football fans as one of the three person panel appointed by the FAI to find a successor to Steve Staunton. Howe, along with Ray Houghton and Don Givens, came close to appointing current England manager Roy Hodgson, before settling on Giovanni Trapattoni.
