It was announced on Wednesday that a Taylor v Serrano rematch would take on July 20th on the undercard of Jake Paul v Mike Tyson, in what is set to be the first-ever live sporting event broadcast on Netflix.

However, many are displeased that two world-class fighters such as Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano would be seen to undercard the fight between a YouTube star and 57-year-old Mike Tyson.

Taylor v Serrano was voted Fight of the Year in 2022 by Sports Illustrated, yet main billing at the fight in Texas will be reserved for the meeting of a youtuber and a a boxer on the verge of his seventh decade

Taylor v Serrano making Netflix history

However, professional boxer and Ladbrokes ambassador Jason Quigley explained why he sees the positive side of Taylor and Serrano being involved on fight night.

I've seen so many positive and so many negative comments on Katie-Serrano on Jake Paul and Mike Tyson undercard, and I can see where people are coming from.

You know that Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, Madison Square Garden, put on an unbelievable event, had an unbelievable fight. Fight of the year and the way people are looking at it is, these two fighters are going on the undercard of a youtuber and Mike Tyson, obviously a legend of the sport, but the man's 57 years of age now.

The fight is set to be the largest streamed fight ever, with the streaming giant Netflix branching off into unchartered territory. According to reports, Taylor will bring home $6 million for this fight, a staggering sum.

And this is really what it has come down to the first live boxing event shown on Netflix. I'm sure they're going to be investing a lot of money into this.

It's Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson, a legend of the sport versus the massive name in boxing right now, whether it may be for a good reason or a bad reason.

But I'm on the positive side of this. I think that this is amazing. Like Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, they've already made history in Madison Square Garden. They've already made history in their career again. They're going to do it one more time by boxing on the first ever live boxing show on Netflix. And the purse is going to be the biggest of their career.

I see a lot of fighters out there giving out about it and saying that, you know, they deserve so much more.

'They don't deserve to be on an undercard of Jake Paul and Mike Tyson.'

But at the end of the day, if you give any fighter in the world right now, the opportunity to fight on this undercard live on Netflix and get the purse that Katie and Amanda and the other fighters are going to get on the undercard. They would take your hand off.

I truly believe, you know, because these opportunities don't come around a lot in boxing unless you know, you get that shot at the world title, you get this shot on a massive stage with a big promotion and not a lot of fighters get that opportunity.

Whereas one thing that Jake Paul is doing, he's given so many fighters the opportunity to fight on good cards to get recognized on live TV, and to get well paid and I have to credit him for, that might get a little bit of stick for this, but I have to credit him for that.

Whether you agree or disagree with the involvement of Jake Paul in modern day boxing, Quigley makes a very convincing argument as to why his involvement can only be positive and lets hope that the outcome on July 20th is positive one for the Bray fighter.
