There's been a whole load of confusion and irritation around watching the Olympics this time around. "Sure it's all on in the middle of the night!" Ireland and the rest of Europe moan in various languages.

If you're wondering why you didn't see Katie in action yet it's because she one of five Irish boxers who were given a bye to the quarter finals. One of those was the now disqualified Michael O' Reilly but we won't go there.

When is Katie Taylor Fighting?

What this means is that Katie Taylor won't be in action until Monday the 15th of August at 15:00.

Her opponent is yet to be decided as the round of 16 fights are taking place on Friday the 12th. We do know that defending champion Taylor will be fighting the winner of the first fight of the round of 16 between Finland's Mira Potkonen Brazil's Adriana Araujo. That fight will take place at 15:30 on Friday.

Katie could potentially face a couple of grudge matches on her way to gold. Should she make it through the quarter final, the Bray native could face Azerbaijan's Yana Alekseevna in the semi-final. Alekseevna ended Taylor's long unbeaten run in the semi finals of the Olympic qualifiers earlier in the year. It was an unexpected result and one which Taylor vowed to bounce back from.

Should Katie come through that bout, she could potentially face Estelle Mossley for the gold. Katie is coming into Rio on the back of a defeat which saw her fall short of winning six world titles in a row. That fight was against, you guessed it, Estelle Mossley. French boxer Mossley defeated Katie in the semi-finals of the 2016 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships.  Taylor had actually beaten Mossley at the 2015 European Games  to win the Lightweight title just a year earlier.

Taylor has revenge in mind and it all starts on Monday at 15:00. Sure it's all very exciting altogether!

Incidentally, it's 4 years to the day since Katie won gold in the London Olympics.
