By PJ Browne Updated

Earlier today, a spokesperson for West Ham said that the club was looking into claims that Darren Randolph and Andy Carroll had been drunk at a pub on Tuesday afternoon.

The club will be looking into these allegations and will deal with the players as we see fit.

The players had attended a club-sanctioned night out on Monday and it was then alleged they were again out on Tuesday afternoon.

Twitter user Aran Nicol posted an image of Carroll and Randolph saying they were 'Pissed out of their nut'.

The tweet led to numerous media reports of the allegations including by the BBC.

Andy Carroll Darren Randolph drunk story fabricated

The BBC have since spoken to Aran Nicol and he explained it was simply a joke which got out of hand. The two West Ham players were not drunk.

Nicol saw the picture doing the rounds on Twitter and simply reposted with a little embellishment.
