There is no doubt that Brendan Rodgers will return to Celtic with some big ambitions in mind.

The 50-year old had an incredibly successful first stint at the club, winning domestic trebles during his first two seasons in charge and being on course for a third before leaving midway through the campaign to join Leicester City.

Of course, that move did not go down all that well with the club's supporters. Many felt betrayed by the move and have treated his return to Glasgow with some scepticism as a result.

Domestic success will go some way to getting them back onside, although that is seen as a minimum requirement at Celtic at this point. It is in the Champions League where the real test will come, with Rodgers' record in Europe not exactly dazzling during his previous tenure at the club.

Making some big signings could also help, with the manager apparently given a sizeable budget of £30million to improve the squad. It seems he already has one potential target in mind.

Brendan Rodgers eyeing move for former Celtic hero

According to the Scottish Sun, Brendan Rodgers is eyeing a sensational move to bring Kieran Tierney back to Celtic.

The left back left the club in a record £25million deal in 2019, going on to establish himself as a key player at Arsenal. However, his injury issues combined with the signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko have resulted in rumours that he could leave The Emirates this summer.

Newcastle United and Manchester City are rumoured to hold an interest in his services, although Celtic are also considering making a move.

It is clear that permanent move would not be feasible given the player's value and £110,000 per-week pay package, although the Scottish Sun suggest a move could be worked out if a significant loan fee and arrangement with Arsenal on the player's wages could be struck. It is said that the defender would consider the proposal due to Rodgers' return to the club.

Kieran Tierney was a huge fan favourite during his time at Celtic, coming through the club's academy and becoming a top class player once he graduated to the first team.

He has maintained strong links to The Hoops since his departure, something that could leave the door open for an unlikely return. The player himself would probably have to insist on this move in order for it to come to fruition.

It would be an incredible signing for Celtic as they aim to maintain their domestic dominance while also making an impact in Europe this season.

Time will tell if they can actually manage to pull it off.
