Liverpool's draw with Manchester City yesterday was a heavyweight clash in every sense of the world, with both sides serving up an extraordinary game at Anfield.

It was a fixture that was reminiscent of some of the all-time great meeting between the sides in the recent past, ones that would often go a long way towards deciding the winners of the Premier League.

On this occasion, both sides would exchange blows throughout and may well feel that they could have won it. In the end, goals from John Stones and Alexis Mac Allister ensured that the spoils would be shared as the match finished in 1-1.

While neither side will be all that disappointed with a draw on this occasion, they did both have chances to win the game.

Luis Diaz missed a couple of huge opportunities for Liverpool during the second half, with the home side also denied what looked like a clearcut penalty deep into injury time.

From a Manchester City perspective, Jeremy Doku hit the inside of the post in the 89th minute, while Phil Foden also missed a big chance just before the hour mark. You can see the Foden chance at 1:46 in the video below.

The England international would hit the target on that occasion, with Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher making what looked like a farily routine save.

However, on second viewing, you could see just how good that piece of goalkeeping actually was.

As Foden made his way towards the goal, Kelleher would distort his body to ensure that there was no space for the ball to go between his legs, the finish that attackers would usually opt for in a situation such as this one. It did the trick, with the goalkeeper producing a very impressive save.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Daniel Sturridge summed up why this was such an impressive bit of play from the Irishman.

For me, I think Foden today in the first half was really good. He's in great form. You're think here 'can he lift it' or 'can he get it through the keeper's legs'.

He got the ball on target, it was on his weaker foot. The touch managed to bounce for him...

To be fair, I think he's everything he probably could. For Kelleher to make Kelleher to make sure he does everything so he doesn't allow him to put it through his legs, you can see it there.

His legs went in diagonally to stop the ball. In those positions, attackers will usually put the ball through the goalkeepers legs. You can see it here, he sort of slides and blocks it from going through his legs. That's one of the finishes that typically go in.

Kelleher did very well there.

Caoimhín Kelleher has won plenty of plaudits in recent weeks, with the Cork native producing some top class performances in the absence of the injured Alisson Becker. He has already made 20 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this season, more than he managed in the last three campaigns combined.

That number is only likely to grow, with the goalkeeper set to play in some big fixtures over the next month or so before Alisson's potential return to the side.

He has certainly earned the confidence of the Liverpool supporters with his performances this season.
