Finn Harps have made a fantastic gesture to Irish football fans, after Manchester United named a weakened line-up for their match at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The reality of United's game against Athletic Bilbao in Dublin kicked in for many when Erik ten Hag named a strong line-up for Saturday's friendly against Lens at Old Trafford on Saturday.

This meant the club's biggest stars were unlikely to make the short journey to Dublin on Sunday, and that proved to be the case, when the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Casemiro were left back in Manchester.

A lot of Irish supporters would have spent big money on their tickets for the game, and while they will no doubt enjoy their afternoon, it does lead to questions over the arrangement of two friendlies so close to each other.

In a sympathetic gesture towards Red Devils fans, Finn Harps have now stepped in with a fairly incredible gesture, as they took to Twitter to offer free season tickets for their remaining 2023 SSE Airtricity Men's First Division games.

"Man Utd fans, we understand you may be feeling a little unloved right now," posted the official club account.

"If you have disappointed little ones today we'd like to offer them a free season ticket for our remaining games so they can see our first 11 try their hearts out for their local community week in week out."

Finn Harps praised for gesture

The club added an email address which people can contact in order pick up the tickets and you have to say they've done well here.

Harps have five home league games left in the season, as well as a home FAI Cup tie against Skerries FC on August 18th, meaning any disappointed families will get to see plenty of football over the coming weeks without paying a penny.

The gesture has been universally praised and it just goes to show that you can always rely on your local community-based football club, even if your favourite international super club lets you down now and again.
