Tonight's penalty shoot-out was like a Roberto Baggio tribute act. The sheer variety and inventiveness players on both sides showed in missing penalties was borderline inspirational.

And, as Ron Atkinson used to say when he was still let on these shows, a 'spotter's badge' has to go to Danny Welbeck for picking out a smart-alecky steward in about row M. The Purists would say that he should have been aiming for a goal but we wont hear tell of it.
