The question of the next Ireland manager always brings with it a certain hullabaloo, but it feels particularly important this time around that a successful hire is made, given the run of results under Stephen Kenny.

Of the names being bandied about, Lee Carsley seems the best of the lot, although many are wary given that his experience as a manager has been as an interim/caretaker or at underage sides.

The like of Steve Bruce, Neil Lennon, and Chris Hughton have all been mentioned, although none of the three have been overly successful in recent jobs.

Kevin Doyle & Richie Sadlier Disagree Over One Aspect Of New Ireland Manager

On RTE this evening, ahead of Newcastle's Champions League clash with Paris St. Germain, Kevin Doyle and Richie Sadlier discussed the type of manager they are hoping to see.

While Doyle felt that Irish candidates should get first preference, Sadlier was very strong in his view that this should not be an influential criteria when choosing Ireland's next manager.

I just don't think that's an important enough criteria, to exclude or include anyone.

I think the things I mentioned a moment ago, your ability to do the job, your experience, your approach you're going to bring, the impact you'll bring and the response you'll get from the players, the chances of getting effective results and getting us to qualify. They're the things.

"I watched the World Cup, the girls playing in the summer," Sadlier continued.

"Who cared that the coach was Dutch? No one cared that the coach was Dutch.

"When we qualified, nobody dampened the celebrations like 'guys but the coach is Dutch'. Like this feels less, this doesn't feel as important. I just don't think the nationality is enough of a reason to exclude anyone from this discussion."
