The possible destinations of Erling Haaland and Kylien Mbappe, football’s two most promising young talents, are the dominant transfer talking points as we near the end of the 2021/22 season.

Mbappe is likely to join Real Madrid, with the Frenchman known to harbour the goal of one day lining up for Los Blancos.

As for Haaland, he looks increasingly likely to end up in the Premier League. It is said Manchester City are leading the race for his signature, although Manchester United are also thought to be pushing for a deal.

The way the two clubs are currently performing, you'd imagine a choice between the pair would be a no-brainer for any footballer. Whereas City continue to compete for the biggest honours in the game, United are a club lacking any sort of leadership or direction. Any player who moves to Old Trafford in the summer is also highly unlikely to be playing in the Champions League next season.

Despite this, some still believe they are the more attractive option.

Speaking with gamblingdeals.com, former Manchester United striker Louis Saha was adamant that Erling Halaand would be 'smart enough' to realise that United’s downfall will not last.

Haaland is young and ready for a step up, at the moment there are obviously bigger destinations where Champions League football is guaranteed, where trophies are maybe more likely.

I understand that. But the player is smart enough to understand that United will be back at the top, that’s for sure, and he will fit the bill.

That’s what United are looking for – someone who can guarantee goals, will definitely play for many, many years and who knows, could even break records.

Saha seems to be alluding the fact that United is generally considered a much bigger club than Man City, but every season they continue to fall, their ‘pulling power’ decreases.

Each season Man City continue at the top of the Premier League, their reputation as a ‘smaller club’ with ‘no history’ continues to dwindle.

How much the current generation of players even pays heed to such issue is certainly up for debate. Either way, you'd imagine it is highly unlikely that Erling Haaland ends up at Old Trafford in the weeks ahead.
