The past month has been an undoubtedly difficult time for Luis Diaz and his family.  On the 28th of October, Luis Manuel Diaz, the father of Liverpool wideman Luis Diaz, was abducted alongside his wife in the city of Barrancas.

Diaz's mother, was released hours after, but his father was held captive until the 9th of November by members of the ELN, one of Colombia's remaining active guerrilla groups.

Earlier this week, Luis Diaz was reunited with his father as he returned home to Colombia for the international break.

This was the moment the Liverpool star saw his father for the first time since the traumatic experience.

Heartwarming moment as Luis Diaz downs Brazil

In last night's World Cup qualifier between Colombia and Brazil, a Gabriel Martinelli first half strike gave the visitors a 1-0 lead heading into the final quarter of an hour of the clash.

With time ticking away for the hosts, up stepped Luis Diaz, who put the ball past his Liverpool teammate, Alisson, in the Brazil net.

Not only were Diaz and his father overcome with emotion, the entire Colombian team immediately joined their talisman in the emotional celebrations.

The fairytale wasn't finished there. Just four minutes later, Diaz produced another moment of magic to give his side the lead.

The 26-year-old's second goal of the game led to this reaction from his father who was overcome with emotion as he watched on in the stands.

A fitting end, after a horrendous time for the Diaz family.

Despite it being a difficult result for Brazil to stomach considering how they led for the majority of the game, Alisson was one of the first people to make a beeline for his club mate.

A beautiful moment between the Liverpool pair and a lovely touch from the shotstopper who sadly knows all to well about the pain Luis Diaz went through over the past number of weeks.

Back in 2021, Alisson tragically lost his father in a drowning incident in Brazil.

Diaz and his Colombian teammates' focus will now be on the clash against Paraguay early next week, while Brazil will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they face reigning world champions Argentina on Tuesday.
