Manchester City made the decision to sign Manuel Akanji from Borussia Dortmund for a number of reasons, but were probably unaware of his remarkable mathematician skills.

The 25-year-old centre back provides pace to Manchester City’s defence, while he is comfortable on the ball, essential for any Pep Guardiola team.

While there had been some concern about his errors before joining Manchester City, Manuel Akanji will only improve at the club, and provides further options to Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nathan Aké.

However, one talent that Manchester City may have been unaware that Akanji possess until this morning is his remarkable maths ability.

While people had joked that his teammate Erling Haaland isn’t human due his performances so far this season, Manuel Akanji is another example of someone who shows superhuman like skills.

The Swiss centre-back claims this has been a skill he has had since he was a child, thanking his maths teacher for encouraging him to be this skilled.

“My teacher that I had always made like a competition, in math and calculating and everything. At that point I knew I’m really good in it because in the competition I always get to the final and won most of the time.”

On the pitch, Akanji seems to be settling into life at Manchester City, having made two starts since his arrival in late August, including starting last weekend’s derby victory over Manchester United.

With a busy schedule ahead and a World Cup in November, Akanji’s intelligence will be put to full use over the course of this season.
