Marcus Rashford has received a huge amount of criticism in recent days, with the footballer's night out in Northern Ireland causing quite a bit of controversy.

The striker missed Manchester United training on Friday morning, with the club saying at the time that it was due to illness. However, it soon emerged that the 26-year old had been out partying in Belfast on Thursday night, despite the fact that the club thought he had returned to Manchester earlier that day.

Rashford was subsequently dropped for the FA Cup clash at Newport County, with Erik ten Hag labelling that decision as an 'internal matter'.

This is not the first occasion that the player's discipline has been questioned in recent times. In fact, one conversation on the matter left Sky Sports scrambling to clarify the status of Northern Ireland last night.

There was a discussion on Sky Sports last night, and while it was centred on Marcus Rashford's trip to Belfast, the presenter on the broadcast quickly became concerned that they were about to be at the centre of a geopolitical storm.

When speaking about the subject, one-cap England international Jay Bothroyd would label Northern Ireland as a 'foreign country'. The presenter on duty quickly moved to clarify his comment.

Bothroyd: The fact that he has flown abroad, gone out on a bender, come back...

Presenter: Just to be clear, he's gone to Northern Ireland, it's not quite abroad.

Bothroyd: That's another country, isn't it?

We didn't have Joy Bothroyd down as someone who was fighting for a united Ireland, but we're glad to have him on board.

Considering the measured approach that many unionist politicians have in Northern Ireland, we imagine that these comments will be not be overblown in the slightest.
