Stephen Kenny is reportedly the main contender to be the next manager of League One side Lincoln.

Former Ireland international Mark Kennedy departed as Lincoln manager in October after 17 months in charge. Though they were in 16th, seven points outside the relegation zone when Kennedy and the club parted company, they were also on a run of one win in six league games.

According to the Irish Mirror, talks have not yet taken place between Kenny and the club. However, he is said to be the "leading contender" for the job.

Kenny's time in charge of the Ireland senior team is expected to end following this month's two international games. Ireland play the Netherlands in Amsterdam on November 18th and then New Zealand in Dublin on November 21st.

Lincoln CEO Liam Scully told BBC this week that there is a "a quiet calmness behind the scenes" as the club looks to appoint a new manager.

"This is a long-term plan, so what we don't want to do is make kneejerk reactions or rush things just for the sake of a moment in time," said Scully.

"That being said, we are competitive and every game matters, so what I don't want to portray is an illusion that we are not absolutely full tilt at this and wanting to do this as quick as we can."

Shamrock Rovers manager Stephen Bradley and Shelbourne boss Damien Duff have also been linked with the Lincoln role.

Scully attended the League of Ireland game between Shelbourne and Drogheda last week. He said his intention was to check out Shels forward Jack Moylan, who will join Lincoln in January, and not Damien Duff.

Scully also took the opportunity to praise Drogheda manager Kevin Doherty. "When people are talking about League of Ireland managers," said Scully, "I can't believe Kevin Doherty's not in the mentioning for that because the job that he and the team at Drogheda have done this year has been phenomenal."

There are several Irish players in the Lincoln squad, including Paudie O'Connor, Sean Roughan, Danny Mandroiu and Dylan Duffy.
