The Bosnians have come down hard on their team after their 'disastrous' performance in Dublin last night.

Dnevi Avaz stressed that Ireland's victory was fully 'deserved' and praised Robbie Brady's display as 'excellent'. Most of the focus was on their own team's shortcomings, saying that the team Mehmed Bazdarevic picked was 'desperate in defence and powerless in attack'. Though , they did point out that the first half penalty was 'dubious'.

Klix.ba did a brief 'Irish media reaction' focusing on the commercial benefits that will accrue to Ireland following qualification. They said that the Irish media gave high marks to their own team, stressing the fact that it was a team effort. Unfortunately, this article was accompanied by a picture of Northern Ireland players celebrating after scoring in Greece.

The paper also wrote about the disruption of the minute silence by some Bosnian supporters. They described the chants of 'Palestine' that arose from the Bosnian end as 'shameful' and noted that the Irish supporters responded with whistles.

They said that while many in Bosnia feel that Europeans are guilty of 'hypocrisy' and only care about 'their victims' as opposed to those who die in conflicts in Syria and Palestine, this is 'not the way fans representing their country should act at a sporting event.'

L'Equipe inevitably referenced the game in Paris six years ago in their analysis of the 23rd minute penalty.

In 2010, Ireland didn't compete in the World Cup after being eliminated by France following a famous refereeing error. Six years later, they were given a very generous penalty by the referee to open the scoring against Bosnia in the second leg.

They also touched upon Bosnia's abysmal playoff record, alluding to their losses in the 2010 and 2012 qualification campaigns, 'and in 2015, they have been eliminated by Ireland despite having 64% of the possession.'

In the Daily Telegraph, Luke Edwards said that the result 'marked a stunning transformation for all those who feared football had lost its place in Irish hearts.' He noted that 'never before has there been more British and Irish interest in a major tournament'.

In the Daily Mail, Ian Ladyman paid tribute to Martin O'Neill.

There is an old saying in football that a manager cannot influence his team once they 'cross the white line' on to the field. It is rubbish, of course. Good teams play in the image of their manager, they represent him in their attitude, approach and diligence. Bad teams simply scatter in the wrong direction.

Here in Dublin, O'Neill's team performed for him, they performed like him. They were dogged and cussed and determined and disciplined. O'Neill was all of these things back in the days when Brian Clough told him he was no good at Nottingham Forest.

Over at the Guardian, Irish writer Paul Doyle said that Walters epitomises Martin O'Neill's philosophy but also said it was appropriate that the goals were partly created by Jeff Hendrick and Robbie Brady.

It was fitting that many of Ireland’s attacks came through Brady and Jeff Hendrick, players who have been colluding on pitches since they were 12-year-olds at St Kevin’s Boys, a schoolboy club in north Dublin. Their blossoming into accomplished performers on the international stage has been another big plus of this campaign.

In Liverpool, meanwhile, they kept it local. The Liverpool Echo led with the headline 'Everton quartet qualify for Euro 2016 after Ireland win'.
